Economic Development and Poverty Reduction in Korea Korea became a very poor country after the colonial rule and the Korean War. People starved because they had nothing to eat and did not even have a foundation to develop the industry. However, the implementation of various policies has led to economic development at a very rapid pace. However, it came to my mind that elements of the political system were not supported as we achieved rapid economic development. Is our capitalism well established? Can we say that the development of capitalism alone is the development of society?

Q. Are human rights universal? / Lee hayoung A. Human rights are universal, and must be universal. What I say is universal is that wherever the person is, the rights to be protected and respected by any country are all the same. But the difference is the practical effectiveness of the right. Depending on the country, there are some places where rights are strictly protected and others are not. We need to strive for the protection of everyone's rights.

Q. Can the government suspend human rights of some individuals for the 'good of the wider society'? / Lee hayoung A. We agree with the suspension of human rights for individuals who adversely affect society, but we should be careful that the government does not indiscriminately violate individuals' human rights beyond their needs. In order to do so, I think the person who needs to be punished needs to be punished properly for the crime. Laws and institutions should be organized in detail so as not to infringe on individual human rights as much as possible.

Q. Who died in the Holocaust? / Lee hayoung A. It is an incident in which numerous Jews were massacreduced. Jews, gypsies, Soviet prisoners, homosexuals and political prisoners were also slaughtered, but 90 percent of the victims were Jews. This is considered the most humiliating event of mankind in the 20th century in that it showed extreme human madness and endless cruelty and violence.

Modern society is rapidly aging. This means fewer healthy young people are making it possible for economic activities. The birth rate is also falling significantly compared to the previous generation. The aging caused by the development of technology is changing the appearance of society. Countries that used to be multi-generational are gradually increasing the proportion of personal life, which redefines the role and expectations of families.  From an economic point of view, the aging population, which is shrinking and only increases the number of people to support, can be considered negative.
