W10 / Human Rights and Asian Values / Lee hayoung

1. Summary
Asian countries insist on human rights that are appropriate for their countries and carry out politics accordingly. However, this sometimes provides room for the dictator of the Asian government to rationalize his irrational behavior through his claim of cultural relativism.

2. What was interesting
When it comes to human rights, I think it is necessary to have universality that encompasses humanity beyond the world. This idea begins with the premise that all human beings are equal. If all human beings are equal, we have basically the right to be protected as well. But who reached an agreement on these human rights? This was also done by a human with limited thinking, not by the consensus of the people of all cultures, but by the scholars of Western powers.

3. Discussion Point
Do we really have to uphold the universality of these prescribed rights? In the 21st century, many things surrounding humanity have changed, so shouldn't a new agreement be necessary? On the contrary, does the Asian countries' own rights system make sense?
