What is meant by that? / Kim Ami
Q. Society is not determined by technology, nor is technology
determined by society. Both emerge as two sides of the sociotechnical coin.
What is meant by that?
This means that technology does not dominate society, nor does society
control technology. In other words, it means that technology and society are
mutually influenced relationships, not just one that dominates the other. For
example, a society that was uncomfortable using computers and cell phones
separately allowed that people make smartphones to give convenience to humans.
And as smartphones grew more and more advanced, people walked on the streets
only looking at smartphones. In other words, society creates new technology,
but the technology makes apperance ofsociety look different from what it used
to be.
