What is the reason behind choosing this topic?
I decided to choose a topic regarding the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (click to access Wikipedia page). The reason behind this is, as mentioned during the online classes, the biggest contribution to the worsening environment is caused by humans. That's why I believe we should change our actions to reverse the trend. I think personal actions and daily habits are really important factors influencing the environment but damages in the biggest scale were caused by the companies itself. That's why not only people as individuals should change behavior but also and foremost businesses. Companies are the organizations that are causing the biggest influence, though we should also remember that their practices were also influenced by what we as consumers expect. Consumers wouldn't care about the origins of the product or how it was produced. The priority would be to produce more and for a cheaper price. That's why we as buyers should be more conscious of the purchases we're making, to put the pressure on companies and their activity. However, firms still should take the initiative, so we can change the situation faster. One of the examples of such initiatives is the World Business Council for Sustainable Development - WBCSD (click to access the official website).

What is the World Business Council for Sustainable Development?
WBCSD is a member-led organization that gathers over 200 international companies. The organization was established in 1995 as a merger of two other organizations of a similar profile. Currently, it gathers the most influential companies around the world. It's also a forum with the goal of changing a global course towards more eco-friendly practices. Their activity regards different environmental issues that include working towards achieving the SDGs. The organization provides its members with the latest knowledge, experience, and appropriate resources in a process of changes they have to go through. The main point of their activity is an influence they have over the creation of the Chief Executive Officers.

Who can become a member of WBCSD?
Those aren't accidental companies, the membership is being outlined for the firms that can be characterized as multinational corporations. That means that they either own or control a good's or service's market in at least one country other than their home nation. Another definition explains the multinational corporation as those with at least 25% of their revenue coming out of their own country. There are also more descriptions providing information regarding that categorization, we can address that terms also to multinational enterprises (MNE), transnational enterprises (TNE), a transnational corporation (TNC), international corporations, or stateless corporations.

The organization focuses on different issues. They can be grouped though as transformational actions in sic economic systems:
