What is free culture and how it can help with social development?/ Changyu Jung

Free culture means culture like works and technologies is free and anyone can use and edit it. It is against excessively repressive copyright. It’s because copyright can hurt the creativities of people. So people say we have to change the old policies that doesn’t reflect the reality.

We can see some examples of how free culture help with social development from open source software. There is 3d modeling software, called Blender. Anyone can edit this software and it’ also free to use. It was not a popular software at the beginning but now it’s one of the most popular 3d making tools. Anyone can make it better, without need to buy it. So it could be better and better in a short period. Openness and accessibility made this software one of the best.

In short, this ‘free culture’ allows people to change the works. The work doesn’t belong to anyone, who want to make it better, he or she can do that. It shows some good points of collective intelligence. Anyone can take part in making their culture better, without qualification. Free culture helps social development by making anyone can change the culture.
