What are some of the major environmental problems facing our society?

As at any other moment in the past, we're facing many problems related to our society. The environment becomes an important aspect as we realize the damage that has been made due to humans' actions while making their way to further in the process of development. One of the major environmental problems we're facing currently are:
  • carbon footprint - almost each of our life aspects contributes to higher carbon emission. Production of goods, meat production, farming, transportation... The concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere has never been so high before, it's also one of the factors influencing climate change. It's said that even though the poorest population contribute less than 1% of emissions, they will be the one that will be affected the most by its consequences (Our World in Data, CO₂ and Greenhouse Gas Emissions),
  • climate change - there are multiple reasons for raising the temperature and global climate change that will result in the biggest risk for the poorest communities,
  • overpopulation - it leads to many environmental issues such as exceeded waste production (if not well managed, then waste often end up in the landfills), hight population intensity leads to water pollution, soil depletion caused by extensive farming and used chemicals, deforestation caused by using the fields for either farming or for people to live in,
  • pollution - water pollution, air pollution, soil pollution, all of it caused by humankind practices resulting in further consequences like acid rains, polluting natural environments of endangered species, marine life, etc.
  • losing biodiversity - caused by hunting, environmental pollution, lands' exploitation, genetic modifications, etc.
There are multiply environmental issues, many of them related. It doesn't mean we have to stop the actions that are causing those issues. It's impossible to imagine the world without agriculture, trade, etc. I think changing the practices of how it used to be performed is what will make the biggest difference.
