What are the pros and cons of using Naver versus Google for research purposes? / Juhee Cha
Naver is a search engine in Korea. In fact, until I entered the university, I think I searched all the information through Naver. However, I feel that Naver is accurate when looking for dictionary meaning, but when looking for academic information, it often does not come up with the information it wants. There is also a service called "Knowledge" that answers the general public's curiosity. The service "Knowledgeman" is really a place with lots of misinformation. Therefore, you should use it carefully.
Google is a very good web search site. I usually use Google to find information. Google can find a variety of information, starting with paper materials. I don't know if it's true, but I think Google's web search is listed in the correct order. Because academic data used to be listed first when searched for information. Also, if you search for information in English that doesn't come out when you search in Korean, you can sometimes get it.
I use Naver to find articles about Korean society and Google to find academic information. I want to know when my classmates use these sites.

According to the reading, Naver is a search engine that is mostly used for finding definitions of words, instead of looking for academic information. This program has two services but only one generates the public’s curiosity. However, according to the reading you should be careful because this program cannot give you the information you want. On the other hand, Google is the opposite of Naver. Google has a very good web search site where you can find the information you want immediately.
ReplyDeleteI personally never heard of Naver because in The Netherlands we use sources from Google, books and other websites that our school is recommending. Therefore, I know more about Naver during this blog but I feel like I wouldn’t use Naver. If I want to look for something, I want to use good sources and not only definitions of words. However, when I want to do some research about Korea, I will try Naver.
There are many sources where you can find information about countries, their history, their society and so on. Digging into books, speaking with locals and reading articles from other sources has more influence to understand the definition of the things we are reading don’t you think so?
I really appreciated your post especially because I had never heard of Naver before coming to Korea. It´s nice to read when and for what you specifically use it and when you turn to Google as a reliable search engine. Thank you!
