How do human rights make our lives better?/ Kim Seonghui

Q. How do human rights make our lives better?

A. I think human rights have allowed us to know that anyone should be respected for their existence itself. Before human rights, for example, became known, we had taken discrimination due to differences for granted. This is because the difference was considered wrong. Taking racism as an example, Asians and blacks, not whites, had to be physically and emotionally attacked or discriminated in public because of their different skin colors. ex) designated seats on buses, designated schools, etc. These discriminations, however, go against the universal values of human rights. That is why it is legally prohibited. Nevertheless, these things still happen. But at least the fact that it is legally prohibited, I think, functions to protect people from those who have ideas that are opposed to this respect for human rights.
