W13.1 Reading / Kim Yoon(김윤)

Summary

This article refers to the history of gender concept and feminism. Gender and development advocated women's status in socioeconomic areas, and have developed little by little over the years. Starting with "Women in Development" in the 1970s, "Women and Development" and "Gender and Development" talked about women's active roles in various social sectors, including labor and status. Although they were criticized in several areas, including women, for their classes or for their pessimism about the possibility of gender-to-sex ties, feminism was actively ignited, allowing feminism to be discussed more actively in the 80s and 90s.

Interesting

I was impressed by the post-neoliberal discussion. In Bangladesh and other countries, I could see how women were viewed in terms of economy and industry. It has not been long since Korea actively discussed feminism, but as I learned and felt in various classes, I was able to recognize that women in the past had lower social status than men, and I think it should be changed for development.

Discussion

Do you think Korea has lagged behind other developed countries in terms of women's recent social advancement?
