Gender and development

Summary)
Gender and development aim to improve the economic development of all countries and the quality of life of the people, taking into account various factors. Gender and development began in the 1950s with welfare policies focused on women in economic development. Developed here, WAD has the characteristic that it considered women an essential element of development as a theoretical and practical development approach. However, the WAD is criticized for failing to consider the relationship between the patriarchal system, considering women as a class. Afterwards, GAD has nothing special to do with women, but it focuses on gender distinction between labor and Lunar New Year's Day, redefining gender role expectations. And GAD gives society roles, responsibilities, and expectations to both women and men. But GAD is criticized for ignoring their ties, focusing only on the social differences between women and men.

What's interesting, what's new?)
I found gender and microfinance interesting. Some development agencies say that women are more likely to pay off their debts than men, so they consider women as the key to the development of success. After hearing this story, an advertisement by a third financial company targeting women came to mind in an advertisement in Korea. And I wondered if the company was a well-paid company for women. The Malayasia study was also interesting to support the argument that this small credit allows women to participate in and fulfill their abilities in society.

The part I want to discuss with others)
According to a study conducted by Malaysia, AIM, a version of small credit, had a positive effect on strengthening Muslim women's authority in strengthening control over family planning and decision-making at home. Do you agree with the argument that microcredit is contributing to women's participation in their abilities in society?

  1. I agree with some of the arguments that microcredit contributes to women's ability to participate in society. For example, consider taking out a loan to do a business. Loans in the primary financial sector will be relatively less easy for women. This is because the bank will lend money in consideration of the profits it earns now, and the amount of money it can borrow will be significantly lower depending on the income gap according to the existing gender and the low authority of Muslim women. But if we use microcredit, this aspect seems to be somewhat overcome.
