W.13 Gender and development / Juhee Cha

1.Summary
Gender and development is a study that deals with the heterogeneous effects of development and globalization on people based on their position, gender, class background, and other social and political identities. The approach to development is aimed at improving a country's economic well-being and subsequent quality of life for its people. Gender and development consider the same factors, but gender and development highlight efforts to understand how multifaceted these problems are in the complex context of culture, government and globalization.
The initial approach includes women in development (WID), women and development (WAD), gender and development (GAD). Neoliberal approaches include Gender and neoliberal development instabilities, Gender and Outsourcing, Gender financial creases, neoliberal economic policies, and Smart economics. There are also approaches with different paradigms.

2.Interesting Point
The approach to gender and out sourcing was interesting. Outsourcing is a phenomenon in which Western companies move their businesses to other countries, because labor costs are cheap. Out sourcing is a business term, but it is said to have a big impact on women as well. Out sourcing allows women in countries where jobs are not easy to get, usually where working conditions are not safe. Problems such as overtime, wage deductions and unsanitary working conditions exist. Women without jobs and income cannot complain and expect a safe working environment because of the fear of dismissal. I thought it would happen a lot in developing countries where there was no development.

3.Discussion
I recently saw a notice from a company, and I saw gender-separated things for certain jobs. For example, there is a notice called 'Three Software Developers Looking for Men, Two Designers Looking for Women'. How can we see this from a development perspective?
