Reviewing an article from Google Scholar: Gender and Poverty

The publication tries to examine the topic of the correlation between poverty and gender. Are Women Poorer? They ask. They go through the analysis of poverty, then reviewing consumption/income poverty and human poverty. Then the author brings different approaches to understand the topic better. The question that is examined is whether gender inequalities increase overall poverty. They also try to answer what can be done in the future and what is already in use to fight the inequalities. The overall conclusions are that there is a correlation between women and poverty in such measures as they tend to have a higher incidence of poverty, their poverty tends to be more severe than men's poverty, and the incidence of poverty is increasing over time unlike the men's. This subject isn't an accidental occurrence. Women tend to be discriminated at work, credit, and other markets. Also, social expectations often happen to limit women. Widows or divorced often are perceived of lower social status, which includes often being harrassed or excluded. Those situations make it hard for them to keep the welfare high for them and their children when left alone. They also own less property are in many societies it's harder for women to get a job. Pay inequalities are also thought to be a factor. They occur even despite similar experiences, qualifications, and education. The important is the changed conception of poverty from the one that says about the lack of access to resources, productive assets ad income. A recent definition discusses a broader picture including for example owned property and state-provision. Are women poorer? In really depends on the spectrum we're analyzing. In most societies, women are poorer in such dimensions as education, health but on the other hand not in life expectancy. Though also this indicator differs because in some societies due to maternal mortality or child mortality - the women expected lifespan is sometimes shorter than men's.

I didn't know that poverty can be analysed also from different points of view than regular income poverty. It was interesting to read about the approach that includes such indicators as health, indicators, expected lifespan, etc. That gives a broader view of the topic.

The problem of poverty in Korea in most of the places was significantly reduced though do you think there are significant differences between women and men poverty in South Korea? Are there significant inequalities within the gender topic in Korean society?
