Gender and development

Gender and equal chances for all people despite their sex are relevant for the development that can be seen in multiple studies and examples. Gender and development is actually a field of research that helps us understand better how societies work. Even though in this world the influence of genders is visible on the economic level, the history of the field dates back to just the 1950s. The researchers show a positive correlation in supporting women in their development (since in many societies female is the gender that is somehow suppressed by limiting rights or social expectations). Educating women, family planning brings high results in fighting poverty in countries with development problems. We can also see that empowering women in many economies brings positive financial results.

The article says that development affects men and women differently. It was interesting to read about the frameworks: WID, WAD, and GAD but also the neoliberal and alternative approaches. Also that such organizations as WB and IMF have implemented policies, programs, and researchers regarding this topic. I think it also shows the importance of those correlations.
I liked the article that it brought also the criticism of the approaches which help to look at the topic from different perspectives.

Can you think of any initiatives regarding gender and development implemented in south Korea?
