Gender and development / Kim Ami
1. Summary
Gender and
development to economic development and globalization, their location, gender,
class background and other social identity, in accordance with the disparate
impact on people.A feminist approach to solve, understanding and
implementation. In other words, we are considering that development has
different effects on men and women. Looking at the initial approach, the term
"women in development" was used in the early 1970s. And to have
returned from the women's movement in the developed world, was promoted through
the liberal feminist. They paid attention to women's production labor, and made
repeated demands for employment opportunities. In addition to the WID approach,
WAD, GAD, etc. are included in the initial approach.
Meanwhile, the
emergence of neoliberalism, which privatizes the public industry, removes laws
or policies that hinder the free flow of the market, and shrinks all social
services, has resulted in the characterization of gender and outsourcing.
Outsourcing refers to when a Western company transfers some business to another
country, where women are mainly employed in inexpensive jobs. However, it is a
problem that it can be replaced at any time. In addition to this, gender and
microfinance, and smart economics are included in the neoliberal approach.
2. Interesting point
The interesting
part was that gender discrimination still exists within small financial
institutions themselves in the gender and microfinance sectors, and that there
is also small credit within the community that affects existing discrimination.
In addition, looking at Grameen's beneficiaries, women faced domestic violence
as they earned more than men.
3. Discuission
In some
cases in Bangladesh, you can see that there is violence against women while
small credit increases women's social advancement. How can we solve this
problem?
I think the policy of respecting and protecting women should also increase. I think Bangladesh should also add specific procedures when it goes through pre-loan screening so that it can be aware that other violence can be produced by favoring women when providing small loans. And I think we should not only prefer women when offering small loans, but also men.
