WHAT DOES A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE? / Kim Ami
1.
Summary
The most common definition of sustainable development is development
that meets current needs without compromising the ability of future generations
to meet their needs. But this definition does not explain the current needs. In
response, the article says it would be more effective to divide the problem
into smaller ranges to make it easier to manage than to talk about
sustainability in a large range. To this end, writer make four suggestions to
help develop global sustainability.
1 Classify sustainability by sector: state exactly what areas you
want to make sustainable.
2 Specifically: We should talk specifically about when, where and
for whom we will make sustainable development.
3 Accurately identify who will benefit: clarify who will benefit
from sustainable development.
4 Paint a picture: You must think critically about what
sustainability will actually look like. Instead of thinking in a good direction
unconditionally, we should think about how it will affect us.

Interesting point
I've always thought the word "sustainable development" was
ambiguous. I felt that the meaning of the word was different for each person.
It was interesting to note this ambiguity. Also, the article said that it is
difficult to predict the future. I think so, too. In response, the author says
the UK-based Future Forum is working directly with the government and
businesses to predict the future. It was interesting that I got to know this
part anew.
3.
Discuission
In this
article, the author says to look at the problem on a small scale, not on a
broad scale. But if you look at a problem too narrowly, wouldn't there be a
bigger problem later?
