Week 7 | WHAT DOES A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE? | Lee Jaeseong

1. Summary
The most common definition comes from 1987’s Brundtland Report:
Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
However, this is open to interpretation. What are the current requirements? African and American requirements will be quite different.
There are four suggestions to help develop the global sustainability story.
1. reak sustainability down by sector
- Details of what is sustainable are important. For example, if the goal is to create sustainable energy, is it to reduce carbon emissions or to create clean energy?
2.  Speak in specifics
- Let's be specific. This is because everyone thinks differently about the sustainable world.
3. Clearly identify who benefits
- Who helps make money with sustainable clothing? Is it a success if the extinction rate for plants and animals continues to increase?
4. Paint a picture
- What is actually sustainability? What is different from the society we live in?

2. Interesting Point
I became interested in the question of whether there was any specific definition of sustainable development. I thought sustainable development is the development that maintains a society that our future generations will enjoy. By the way, what should we do about it? What is a sustainable development? Thinking like this made me feel dizzy. I came to think about this.

3. Discussion
What is sustainable energy? Reducing carbon emissions? Or renewable energy? Or something else?

Comments

  1. I think sustainable energy is an inexhaustible energy. In other words, I think it is energy that can be used again if it is purified after use. For example, I think this is sustainable energy because water vapor can become water again if water evaporates to get energy. In addition, energy that does not run out, such as solar power, solar power, and wind speed, is considered sustainable energy.
