Week 10 | Human Rights and Asian Values | Lee Jaeseong


1. Summary
The Asian government has begun to raise the value of Asia. They began to criticize what they thought was a righteous sermon by Western countries. They took issue with the colonial rule of Western countries and argued that human rights should reflect certain situations in certain countries at certain times.
The controversial and provocative claims of the Asian government have been investigated from a fairly broad perspective. Various scholars have jumped into this argument. dismiss the Asian government's autocrat's claim and misrepresent its position as cultural relativism.
They admit that Western countries have human rights issues and have committed brutal acts, but point out that two wrongs are wrong. It concluded that each country should be held responsible for human rights violations and take action to prevent such violations.

2. Interesting Point
It was a story that could think about the human rights differences between Asian and Western countries. I thought this was the difference in human rights due to cultural relativism I saw on the previous Wikipedia website. It is also true that Western countries have long colonized Asia, and I thought there could be a difference.

3. Discussion
Do you think Asia is a region that protects human rights well now?

    I don't think Asia is a good place to protect human rights now. There are still many countries in Asia where economic growth is far more important than human rights protection. Therefore, there are many cases where human rights are not respected in the workplace. In addition, Asia has a strong tendency to preserve traditional culture, and as the example of the Koran is shown in the article, many countries value traditional values more than the universally important concept of human rights, and in this case, many believe that modern human rights can be violated.
