W9.1 Demography / Juhee Cha

1.Summary
Demographics covers studying how the population changes over time. This analysis is also linked to society as a whole, education, religion and ethnicity. Demographics are useful data to describe various sociological phenomena. Demographics depends on large datasets. Large data sets over a long period of time are required to develop trends in demographic indicators such as birth and mortality. In many countries, especially in developing countries, reliable demographics are still difficult to obtain. In some areas, this may be due to the link between census and taxation. Overpopulation refers to cases where the proportion of population to resources is too high. Population and resources are closely related. Urbanization is also talked about through the movement of the population. Urbanization is also associated with the sociological process of modernization, industrialization and rationalization, in cases of moving from rural to urban areas.

2. Interesting Point
It is interesting to note that population decline and increase are not merely numerical data, but are interpreted as factors or consequences of social phenomena to form a correlation. Looking at the characteristics of the population in a particular society, one can see what kind of society it took. As an example of Korea, a large number of new towns are being developed in the Seoul metropolitan area, which shows that the population is increasingly concentrated in the metropolitan area. Population growth rates also represent the changing values and mindset of modern people. It is interesting that we can see society through demographics.

3. Discussion
As mentioned above, we can see the correlation between various social phenomena through our population. Is there another case that links population to social phenomena?
