W9. Aging / Lee Se Hyun

Summary

The development of medical systems and technology has increased people's life expectancy. Also, the birth rate has declined as society advances. This resulted in the aging of the population worldwide. The aging of the population causes various problems. Mainly policy problems arise. There are issues such as retirement pensions, income security for senior citizens, health and quality of life. Also, the sandwich generation feels a lot of pressure as the aging population increases its dependent population. It should present new solutions to the aging problem. Traditional thinking about the aging population in the past cannot solve the problem. Currently, the aging population is treated as a worthless workforce, but it can be an important workforce. If they can make use of their long-standing experience, they will be able to generate high profits.

Interesting point

Korea still has a traditional idea of aging, even though it entered an aging society a long time ago. New policy attempts must be made as the aging population intensifies, but Korea is in place. An aging policy without development for a long time will create serious problems in the future. A case in point is the increase in taxes. The continued economic slump has forced older people to retire early and made it difficult for young people to get a job. As the population grows due to the aging population, it takes a lot of taxes to maintain the country. But due to a lack of jobs and retirement of the elderly, taxes are scarce. In order to solve this problem, we need to encourage jobs for the elderly. Active job support policies should also be implemented for senior citizens to address these problems. This is a new paradigm against traditional thinking. I think many paradigm shifts should be made.

Question

What are some ways to overcome the aging problem?
