Q. Society is not determined by technology, nor is technology determined by society. Both emerge as two sides of the sociotechnical coin. What is meant by that?
A. It means that
society and technology influence each other. In the overall context, society
sometimes determines technology, and sometimes technology decides society. An
example is the appearance of a computer. Computers were made for the purpose of
war. Technology has emerged to meet the needs of a society where war is valued.
This can be said to have influenced technology in society. On the contrary,
society changed as computers appeared. A group of people who do calculations
disappeared and various jobs such as computer engineers, hackers, and
programmers were created. This shows that society and technology have a close
connection, not someone's decision, but in a state of intertwining.
