Technology, the Internet, and Virtual Worlds/Kim Ami

1.     Summary

New research areas on social science focus on technologies such as mobile phones, video games, virtual worlds, social networking services and digital media. Technology is a set of technologies, methods or processes used to achieve a goal, such as the production of goods or services or scientific research. For example, the process used to build a car is an example of technology, and cars are also a form of technology that can achieve a particular goal. A typical example of modern technology is a mobile phone, which allows users to make calls without having to connect directly to a telephone line. The introduction of this technology has changed social customs and the general appearance of society. Likewise, technologies such as video games and social networks have changed society's appearance positively, but sometimes have a negative impact on society.

2.     Interesting point

What was interesting was the gender inequality part in social networks. According to a study, women who posted sexual Facebook profile photos were rated as physically unattractive, socially unattractive and less capable of completing tasks than women who did not post so. After reading this part, I thought that men should also be presented to discuss gender inequality.

3.     Discuission

How can we reduce the negative impact of technology?
