Do you think that countries position are determined by the level of military technology they possessed?(Particularly before the 21st century?)/ joonhee Lee
I think the position determined by the level of military technology. It has been more than 100 years yet, but society at that time will be much different from what it is now. By the middle of the 20th century, the world was in the age of the jungle. During the reign of imperialism, many countries used military power and capital to colonize other countries, and did not hesitate to use violence such as looting, domination, massacre and oppression. Also, ideological differences have led the world to two huge wars. Many countries have participated in the war, but the forces leading the war will be those with the strongest military and capital power.
Another example that best illustrates is the Cold War era. There was no major conflict at the time, but the U.S. and the Soviet Union, located at a symmetrical point, used different countries to play a fierce chess game. Immediately after liberation, South and North Korea were also divided by the intervention of other countries, which has been maintained until now. As such, I think it is enough to say that the order of the world was maintained only recently by force. So what about the 21st century?
In conclusion, the existence of power by military force has not completely disappeared, but I think it has no greater impact than before. Perhaps the most powerful weapon in modern society is nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons cannot be used recklessly because they do not end up as simple damage when used, but they are often used for the purpose of intimidating between nations or for the purpose of displaying power. In view of this, I don't think the impact of military power has completely disappeared. But now, I think, at the same time, interests such as diplomacy and trade between countries do not lag behind in priorities. Also, modern society, as well as military technology, expects technology that will bring more innovative changes to our lives. Therefore, I think the current status of the country is very complicated.
