Week 6-2 | Clean Growth | Lee Jaeseong

1. Summary
Clean growth is the seventh goal of the sustainability goal, first announced by the United Nations in 2009. This means the UN's economic growth goal of using renewable energy technology using energy-efficient and sustainable agricultural practices. Nicholas Sarkozy said, taking into account environmental and economic growth together.
"Our first goal is to find the way to achieve "clean" growth and I want to defend this idea here today. We haven't got to choose between saving the planet and growth. We need to have growth and save the planet. So we need a growth that consumes less energy and fewer raw materials. A new economy must be invented."
The term was used as a means to redefine the value of economic growth and development. An increase in income from GDP cannot account for an increase in quality of life. Economic growth is a good thing, but historically puts growth speed ahead of quality of economic development. In this case, it is said that side effects such as pollution and greenhouse gas emissions should occur and sustainable development should be made
Energy efficiency: Energy (especially renewable energy) is the key to clean growth. Today's economy depends entirely on energy, but it is one of the most harmful factors to the environment. Clean energy is very key to clean growth.
Sustainable Agriculture: This is fundamental. In order for society to survive and thrive, it should be a priority to secure food. Agriculture also provides textiles. Agriculture should manage land in a way that meets current social and economic needs while not destroying them in the future.
Renewable energy technology: Energy used through renewable sources such as sun, wind and rain. It is the key to solving resource depletion and pollution problems.

2. Interesting Point
I liked the contents of this document. It is not right for developed countries to say to any developing country, "You are polluting the environment, so don't develop it!" After all, developing countries' priority is economic growth. In this situation, developed countries want to protect the environment. The United Nations should coordinate this well to cope with environmental pollution in developed countries and to reach a compromise in the growth of developing countries, which I think is clean growth.

3. Discussion
What do you think about clean growth?
