Week 3 | Social development theory | Lee Jaeseong

1. Summary
Social development theory attempts to explain qualitative changes in the structure and framework of society. Development is governed by many factors that influence the results of developmental efforts.
The term development generally means economic development, but it can be used in various social areas. Economic development and human development may not be the same thing. The Middle East raised national income without giving money to the poor.

There are six courses as Process of energy of new activities in society

1. Unconscious vs. conscious development
2. Role of pioneering individuals
3. Imitation of the pioneer
4. Organization of new activities
5. Organization matures into institution
6. Cultural transmission by the family

The above six processes show that new social activities are being created and developed. The most powerful means of disseminating and maintaining these new developments is "education."

Society tends to value non-material resources over material resources as they develop. The infusion of non-material resources helps explain the productivity of society.

The increase in freedom, along with the increase in creativity, has spurred the development of technology. Nobel Prize-winning economist Arthur Lewis saw the British Industrial Revolution as the direct impact of the British agricultural overhaul.

There are three stages of development.

1. Physical phase: At this stage, society is preoccupied with survival. That's the case with the agricultural and feudal times.
2. Vital stage: Dynamics and changes are injected into society. Trade develops at this stage.
3. Mental Stage: Practical, Social and Political Development Phase. Global network society is included in this stage.

2. Interesting Point
Reading this document, I could see the importance of non-material resources. We generally think of material resources. (such as oil and coal) But what really drives society is that it's people like us and their labor and technology are the driving forces of social development. Rather than increasing material resources, the growth of non-material resources is a significant increase in social productivity.

3. Discussion
In the third stage of social development, when do you think our country entered the third stage? Or do you think you haven't entered the third stage yet? So what's the rationale?
