W6. What are some of the major environmental problems facing out society? / Juhee Cha

I would like to talk about environmental pollution caused by plastic due to the increase in the use of disposable products. Due to the recent coronavirus epidemic, people have begun to be sensitive to hygiene. People began to buy and use disposable masks (a five-part policy for single-use masks appeared) and avoided contact with people by wearing plastic gloves. In addition, those who did not wear disposable plastic gloves were not allowed to enter polling stations during the parliamentary elections. Of course, it was part of efforts to prevent the spread of the virus, but I was worried about the environmental pollution problem that would follow. In the case of plastics and vinyl, various toxic substances are emitted when incinerating. Among them, the most dangerous substance called dioxin causes cancer, birth of malformed babies and infertility. It also affects the ecosystem. It is hoped that disposable products that are naturally biodegradable will be developed as soon as possible, resulting in eco-friendly reclamation methods.
