W6. Sustainable Development/ Kim Seonghui
1. Summary
Sustainable development is a way of trying to achieve human development goals while preserving natural resources. Economic development, natural resources, and ecological conservation are difficult to develop while satisfying each other. This concept is often criticized as a matter of what should be maintained in sustainable development. In particular, some say that sustainable development does not exist because continuing development will eventually deplete the planet's finite resources. This concept leads to an education called ESD. Encouraging changes in knowledge, attitude, and technology to create a more sustainable and equitable society. Sustainable development is an economic, environmental, and social intersection. Sustainability is to use resources only as long as human resources can be naturally replenished. Efforts are also made for sustainable development in terms of agriculture, economics, energy, manufacturing, technology, and business. However, these indicators of sustainability are not fundamentally indicative of our sustainable development. We can only see through these indicators that we are going in the wrong direction or in the right direction.
2. New/Interesting
The discussion of sustainable development in the natural capital sector is based on the assumption that society should manage three types of capital (economic, social, and natural), which was impressive that it could not be replaced and consumption could not be reversed. Also impressive was the part that stated irreversible. I reminded in this part that the water boils up as if it were over 100 degrees Celsius, but it was calm before that. I thought it was a little scary that we didn't know what changes nature was going through and how it affected us until we crossed this certain part.
3. Discussion
It is said that there are no indicators that can accurately measure sustainability. Nevertheless, we need these indicators to realize that we are making sustainable development. So what metrics can measure sustainability?
