W5.Sociocultural Evolution(1)/Lim Ji Won
Sociocultural Evolution is a theory that explains how culture and society change. They attempted to formalise social thinking along scientific lines, with the added influence from the biological theory of evolution.
It was very interesting to me that most of the people who argued for sociocultural evolution were classical sociologists. Among them, Herbert Spencer's argument was interesting, because he believed that it was right for society to evolve into a form that further guarantees individual freedom, and he was against government intervention. I think this has some commonalities with modern Neoliberalism.
Are you in favor of Spencer's claim? Or do you support the government's active involvement in society?
