W5. Sociocultural evolution(2)/ Kim Seonghui
1. Summary
Modern theories provide a background for new theories such as cultural relativism and multi-generation evolution. The Cold War-era begins with both the United States and the former Soviet Union thinking they are the most evolved culture on Earth. The former Soviet Union thought it was a socialist society that would break away from class struggle and achieve a communist state, and the United States argues that American freedom and prosperity have made a higher level of development. On the other hand, from a technical point of view, many think that technology is the next step in social and cultural evolution. It means the convergence of biology and technology, such as information and cloning of the biosphere. Meanwhile, from an anthropological point of view, ecological democracy is advocated. They argue that social harmony with the ecologically optimized state of closely connected groups is more desirable or necessary than development.
2. New/Interesting
It was first learned from a technical standpoint that many people thought the next step in social and cultural evolution was convergence with technology. This was a little shocking for me because I felt that technological development was the ultimate goal of development rather than having an irrational and nondiscriminatory society. I don't know why, but in this part, I thought of technology-is-the-best-ism(?), I should be wary.
3. Discussion
Why do many people think the next step in social and cultural evolution is the convergence of technology and the right to life? I wonder if you think the next step is the convergence of technology and the right to life.
