W5 / Sociocultural evolution(1) / Lee Hayoung

1. Summary
Social and cultural evolution is a term used to describe cultural and social changes over time. A process in which the development of society and culture increases the complexity of society is searched, and a process in which society is changed while making a large change or decrease in such complexity is also searched. There are various societies in human history, and the number of societies that can be clearly said to be societies was estimated to be about 200. The theory of social and cultural evolution is one of the ways society develops. This has been influenced by the theory that living organisms evolve, and has attempted to formalize social thinking in this context. If the evolutionary process of organisms is to be applied to society, too. Human society was compared to biological organisms, and a society of concepts such as diversity, natural selection, and inheritance and scientific equivalents were introduced as a result of social development.

2. What was interesting
It was interesting to look at the social development process in a similar way to the development of organic bodies. However, it is not clear how the formula described in biological evolution applies to society. "But if the conceptual part is in the same vein as the visible forms such as diversity, natural selection, and inheritance, I thought it was a plausible hypothesis."

3. Discussion Point
If biological evolution and social and cultural development are to be considered in the same context. Biological evolution stopped long ago. We're just slowly adapting to the situation. However, society is rapidly changing. So is the theory of socio-cultural evolution still applicable?
