W5 Reading:Sociocultural evolution/ joon hee Lee
The Sociocultural evolution theory examines how our society and culture have walked from the distant past to the present and how they will walk in the future. Use 'evolution' as a word to describe this. It means that the structure of a group (culture or society) changes over time. The early evolutionary theory developed with an emphasis on Western civilization. The standards of evolutionary society or civilization have been presented in various ways by various scholars, but they will be almost the same set as those of the group they belong to. It has also drawn much criticism as advocates of eugenics, racism, slavery and colonialism ended up using their ideas to justify them. Some scholars were skeptical about this direction, and they thought that the goal of social evolution could not share one way and content. It also questioned the concept of progress that many initially considered a goal.
The idea of social and cultural evolution theory was as diverse as the number of scholars who studied it. However, it is sad that most of this has been used in a bad way in history.
Many scholars linked the concept of evolution to the development of technology, which soon developed into a major blemish of modern society. Is it right to integrate evolution with the word progress? If so, is progress all about pursuing technological advancement? What does progress mean in modern society?
I think the progress of modern society is in improving the quality of human life. I think it is also a social development and progress that makes human life convenient through technological development.
