W4 / free-cultural movement / Lee Hayoung

1. Summary
The free cultural movement is to freely distribute and modify information about social movements and to be creatively open to others on the Internet. "So this movement opposes copyright laws, which are too restrictive."Because excessive restrictions suppress people's creativity. People call such a system permission culture. To allow the qualification to share and reprocess various productions under various conditions. Thus, the free culture movement is characterized by free exchange of ideas, which is connected not only with open source shiftware, but also with other movements and philosophies such as open access, remix culture, and hacker culture. Also, access is made to the knowledge movement, the copy left movement, and the open movement.

2. What was interesting
This is the first time that I have learned that there is a different name for a culture in which we can reproduce and use creative works freely, unlike the Copyright Law. As long as the author's permission was granted, I thought that licensing that can be processed would also belong to a kind of copyright law, but reading this article, I found that the liberal arts movement was also different from the copyright law. This point was interesting.

3. Discussion Point
However, it seems that it is unclear to set a standard that distinguishes plagiarism or unauthorized reproduction or reprocessing from secondary processing and liberal cultural movements. In this age of diverse creations, personal copyright is a very important element, but what is more necessary for the free cultural movement to proceed without any infringement?

Comments

  1. I think that first of all, if the creator (the original writer) specifies how freely his or her work is available, it could make their copyright rights less violated as much as possible. I think this is a way for other people to use the work more freely on a limited basis, even if the creator does not contribute to a completely free cultural movement. It's quite complicated issue.
