W3. Social development theory / Lee Se Hyun
Summary
Social
development theory explains the changes in society. There is a change at the
macro and micro level. This article is a macroscopic social change. Development
generally means economic development. But it is also used in politics, society
and technology. There are various kinds of development. It is unconsistent vs.
These are the complex development, Role of Pioneering Industries, Imitation of
the Pioneer, Organization of New Activities, Organization Matures into
Operation, Cultural Transmission by the Family.
The means to
continuously promote various kinds of development is education. Education has
the purpose of conveying the collective knowledge of a society to the next
generation. This accumulation of knowledge creates new challenges. This is
directly linked to development.
It depends
on the social organization to be developed. For example, Galileo's telescope
was perceived as a demon's tool because of religious doctrines, and a lot of
development emerged when it was liberated from religious doctrines. Development
doesn't come suddenly. The social situation has a lot of influence. There are
three stages of development. There is a physical stage characterized by the
dominance of physical elements of human nature, a virtual stage in which
dynamism and change are injected and development is greatly expanded, and a
mental stage in which the power of ideas that change social life is increased,
not just in promoting innovation in technology and organization. It goes up in
the order of the stage, virtual stage, and mental stage.
Interesting point
It was interesting
that the social situation affected development. It is impressive that even
innovative technology development cannot emerge if society does not support it
at that time. This article reminded me of Korea. Korea boasts a high level of
education on average. In other words, it means that the accumulation of
knowledge that can promote the development of the next generation is going
well. It is highly likely that innovative development ideas will emerge through
this. However, Korea is in the opposite situation with Silicon Valley in the
U.S. Due to realistic constraints, it is difficult to realize an idea. It is
the opposite of Silicon Valley, which has many opportunities to realize ideas.
For this reason, it was interesting that the social situation affected
development.
Question
I think government
support is needed for Korea to become like Silicon Valley in the U.S. In what
direction should government support go?
