W3. Social development at World Bank/Seoyoung Um

Social development focuses on the need to think about people first in the process of development. Social development will empower people, build cohesive, resilient societies, create responsible institutions accessible to citizens, and promote social inclusion of the poor and vulnerable.

World Bank's work on social development, including poverty and social impact analysis, will make significant efforts to enhance the resilience of communities and institutions against natural and human shocks and climate change.

Strongly, the Bank's Board of Directors has endorsed the new environment and social framework (ESF) for increasing human and environmental protection and promoting sustainable development in its banking investment projects. ESF provides a broader and more systematic scope for environments and social risks focused on the poorest and most vulnerable environments.

It was the first time I knew of ESF. An organization that actively supports social development issues in each country. Then, we conduct analysis work to explore major social sustainability issues.
