W3. Can you think of any limitations of GDP / GNI? Is it an ideal measure of social development? / Kim Seon Woo

The biggest problem with GDP is that it is a simple division method. The production capacity of the country can be seen, but this is overwhelmingly high in the case of South Korea, produced by a small number of large companies such as Samsung Hyundai.

So, in the case of the company's workers or stock holders, income can increase if the company's output increases, but it is difficult to reflect the output of other people. Of course, Samsung's affiliates' production growth cannot be neglected, but one thing is clear: GDP is simply impossible to sum and divide by the total number of people.

So, in developing countries, GDP is used as a meaningful measure of social development. First, 'creating wealth' is a top priority for developing countries. However, it is correct to evaluate the degree of economic development with the GNI from when it becomes a medium or higher role in the world.
