Video: "How we could change the planet's climate future"
What is the main idea of this video?
The video concerns environmental issues. Firstly we are shown a personal example of living in the unconsciousness of the person that is presenting the topic. He doesn't describe himself as a nature enthusiast. Although he used to visit those sites for a city break, he lived his whole life in the city considering nature as something more distant. He's talking about his perspective regarding climate change, that he perceived it as something not too threatening, something that is happening relatively slow. Later on, numerous statistics are brought up backing up the following information:
The interesting argument that was mentioned is that half of all the emissions that have ever been produced from burning fossil fuels happened during the last 30 years. What's important to note it's also that it's the exact time when already actions to combat climate change have been introduced.
Do you agree with the arguments made here? Why, or why not?
I agree with the arguments that he's presenting, the main reasons behind my decision are:

Later on, numerous statistics are brought up backing up the following information:
- ongoing temperature rise and its consequences for people's lives and countries' economies. The risk that in the near future many of the biggest cities in Asia and the Middle East will be unbearable to live in during the summer,
- how the world changed through the centuries, that conditions have changed drastically,
- climate change was often thought to be caused by previous generations but it's actually the most recent that caused the biggest negative changes
The interesting argument that was mentioned is that half of all the emissions that have ever been produced from burning fossil fuels happened during the last 30 years. What's important to note it's also that it's the exact time when already actions to combat climate change have been introduced.

I agree with the arguments that he's presenting, the main reasons behind my decision are:
- he's addressing those statistics and is comparing them to our life span, making it easier to imagine the scale of damage that was caused.,
- after presenting all those data he's approaching the problem from a different perspective and that's what I'm in favor of. His message is that while we caused all this damage, it also shows to what extent we were able to influence the planet and that we should use this power for our benefit, to fight those changes now,
- I also agree that we should take a proactive attitude and think about new solutions, we need new kinds of practices or coming back to those old practices that were neutral for the environment. Some of the reasons behind climate change are inherent in our lives, that's why we should change the way to perform them,
- countries should stop running nationalistic geopolitics,
- the only obstacle is humankind and neither science nor technology is stopping us from starting the change, we have it all to take actions and look for new solutions,
- new politics, new economics, a new relationship to nature and economics are needed.
