Sociocultural evolution/ Changyu Jung
Sociocultural evolution is a theory that explains how societies and culture changed throughout history. It explains that every societies have changed as time went by. Early theories of sociocultural evolution focused on creating one evolutionary model that could be applied to all societies. Some thinkers said that societies have developed through some stages. These arguments explained that there is a law of development in history. But theories in today focus on the differences between societies.
It was interesting that some theories tried to discover the standard law of social development. They didn’t consider the differences between societies. Eventually the theories could be used for justifying colonialism and slavery. I think it is inappropriate to explain all societies with one standard model. Also, I think that these theories have changed and focused on differences between societies is an example of social development.
Our societies have changed a lot as time went by. Our societies in today are better than old ones? If so, at what point are these better?
