W3. Social Development Theory/ Kim Seonghui

1. Summary
The theory of social development tries to explain the qualitative advances in the social structure, also and construction of society. Development can be defined in a way that can be applied to all societies in all historical periods and can be characterized by a high-rising movement against something. It is not just a set of policies and programs designed for certain outcomes, but a process of social development. The term development usually refers to economic growth, but it can also be used to political, social and technological improvements. Economic development and human development do not indicate the same thing.
There are many factors in this process of development. First, it starts without knowing what the results will be, and sometimes it starts with some prediction of the results with the understanding gained from experience. Second, it is initiated by pioneers who exercise a new initiative. If the pioneer's plan achieves, it promotes reproduction and slow propagation to other communities. Or, by letting someone continue to emulate these pioneers, more people may have the same idea of innovation. Third, a new and better organization is formed and new activities are launched. And when this organization becomes an institution, it can mean that society fully understands and embraces this organization.

2. New/Interesting
I learned about the various factors of development. I already knew that economic development and human development could not mean the same thing. But I only knew vaguely, and this time I learned more from examples, no human development even if economic development is made, and no economic development has been made even if it is made for human development. (But I think economic development would naturally follow if human development had been achieved.)
I learned newly that the process of development in society is divided into the physical, vital, and mental stage. These are overlapping steps and cannot be clearly divided. But I think mental steps are the most important. Because I think that social development is born from a new spirit.

3. Discussion
What steps do you think are most important in the physical, vital, and mental stages of social development? I wonder what you think, even if we cannot clearly distinguish this process.

Comments

  1. I think the physical stage is most important. Because it can be a foundation for social development. In the physical stage, there are not many changes. The spread of knowledge and invention are prohibited and suppressed. I think this makes the potential for explosive development.
