Millennium Development Goals/김윤(KIM YOON)

Summary

Millennium Development Goals has been established following the Millennium Summit of the United Nations in 2000. It has 8 international development goals for the year 2015. It entitles "we the Peoples : The Role of the United Nations in the 21 century." The MDGs originated from the United Nations Millennium Declaration. The declaration asserted that every individual has dignity - right to freedom, equality, a basic standard of living that includes freedom from hunger, violence and solidarity. The MDGs emphasized 3 areas : human capital, infrastructure and human rights. Although progress towards reaching the goals has been uneven across countries, there were many successful examples from developing countries. Meanwhile, there were also criticism. General criticism include a perceived lack of analytical power and justification behind the chosen objectives. Also the MDGs lack strong objectives and indicators for within-country equality.

Interesting

I thought there were only one or two indicators that indicate the extent of the world's development, but there were many indicators that looked at the world in a much more diverse and analytical way than I thought. In the case of MDGs, it was impressive to pursue peace and balance in the world with very detailed items.

Discussion

For the world peace and balance, which items in MDG should be added or changed after 2020?

Comments

  1. Through this Covid-19 incident, I feel great hygiene inequality in each country. Shouldn't hygienic equality come first in order to cope with these infectious diseases well in the future?
