Have we evolved beyond having world wars or are we going to see another world war in the future?

Some of the societies aren't afraid of the world war anymore. Being born in a peaceful environment, it's hard to imagine for the young generations the reality of the war. Even though there's no world war at the moment, there are many conflicts around the world that are affecting a big part of the societies. According to the Peace Index 2019, we can see another year of deterioration in global peace. One of the indicators used in the index is "Ongoing Conflict" and it's one of those that worsened by 8.69 percent comparing to the results from 2008. There are also positive changes as more people in the world declare the feeling of freedom and life satisfaction, however, the index still remains on a lower level as the one from a decade ago. The statistics aren't reflecting a good trend but my personal opinion on that is that the world's goal is to prevent another world war from happening.

Many societies could grow during the war times (because of the gained territories/resources or selling weaponry, army equipment, etc.) but it's a peaceful time when we see the biggest positive changes economically and socially. Moreover, important lessons have been taken from the previous wars resulting in introducing human rights and many conventions. Since then also many organizations have been created to ensure a safe environment but also to help the countries to cooperate and gain mutual benefits. Examples of such organizations are the United Nations, The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, the European Union, The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, The African Union and many others providing integration on different levels. Its integration levels and actions differ but those are the measures taken to make the world more united. It's important to remember that currently in the world there are ongoing wars and tensions between countries for different reasons - countless conflicts in different parts of the world, proxy wars that are being held by many international actors. Although international politics is being held by the minority, the responsibility doesn't remain on them. As citizens, we should take out own actions as well to make sure there will be responsible people representing us. As a result, I do believe we won't have to face another world war in the future.

    I agree that we won't have to face 'physical' world war. But I think the threat of world war in different forms still exists. These days there is a danger of economic world war. I think we should recognize the danger and try to lower it.
