Comic book review: MDG#2 Achieve Universal Primary Education/ Kim Seonghui
In this cartoon, the main character is a boy named Emmanuel, who lives in a small village in Burundi. He is 12 years old, but he is a freshman. His family couldn't afford to send their children to school, so they started working at an early age. Then one day, a president gave free elementary school education, and the boy went to school. However, the educational environment was poor. They didn't have many textbooks, so they had to share them with their friends, and the classroom was full and they had to take classes in tents. At that time, UNICEF's support allowed them to take classes in an improved educational environment.
I think universal education is very important. The training includes basic private rule calculations and literacy skills. This is because you need to have these basic skills to better develop your own abilities. In particular, developing countries often require children to work rather than to send them to school. This is the judgment of parents to live in reality right away rather than to invest in the future. In such cases, however, a number of problems will arise, including human rights violations caused by child labor. They get paid less for being children, but they do as much as adults. I think the advent of this universal education could expose them to the working environment even a day later. Through this education, they will learn how to protect their rights.
