Comic book review: is this medium helpful in education with regards to social development topics?/ Changyu Jung
I think this medium(comic book) could be a
good tool for education about social development topics. But I think these
comic books are not good. Comic books is a good tool to impress people, by storytelling.
Because people can understand the things easily with the stories and pictures. However,
I felt this comic book is unlikely to impress people. I read a comic book about
poverty. I can see that a boy in this story is poor, but I felt like he’s not
that struggling. And I also felt like he’s satisfied with his status. That’s
why I wondered he needed help from someone. In addition, I couldn’t find information
about how I can help people struggling from poverty while reading the cartoon
part. The information about that was in another part.
So, in my opinion, if someone use comic
book as a tool for education, a good skill for storytelling is needed. In the
case of this cartoon, I think the author should have described the character’s
situation more dramatically and added some information in the cartoon part. I
felt like the cartoon part was too weak to impress people and give enough
information.
What skills do we need when using comic
books as an education tool? Can comic book replace textbooks?
