Why are you taking this class? - Samantha Burton

Although I have had Introduction to Sociology back in my home university in Brazil, I do not feel I have made the most out of the class. I struggled a bit with the amount of deep and extensive texts my professor would assign to us on a weekly basis in addition to the fact that the discussions weren't that involving. I have high hopes to retake this subject and come out as a better understander of this line of study. 
When reading the course outline and objectives for this class I found it so interesting to hear about how Wikipedia would be used for studying the concepts. I have never written nor edited on Wikipedia and look forward to learning how to manage it because to my understanding, in regards to my field of work, collective intelligence plays a major factor in defining good and bad means of gathering, handling and spreading knowledge. 
To be able to learn new things such as to use tools available online nowadays, like Wikipedia, is an incredible opportunity that must be used with caution and in a responsible manner. Overall I am really excited to be taking this class and to learn more on social development studies!

Q. Society is not determined by technology, nor is technology determined by society. Both emerge as two sides of the sociotechnical coin. What is meant by that? A. So to begin with, I think that society and technology are the relationships that influence each other, the concepts that one cannot include or dominate.
