What are the pros and cons of using Naver versus Google for research purpose?

This topic is a comparison between two sites, a search portal that used to hold the largest stake in South Korea Naver, and Google, which dominate the world.

First of all, I did some research about numbers. In 2016, Naver and Google were each 90 percent and 1 percent, respectively. But now in 2020, Naver has fallen to 50 percent, and Google has achieved a rapid growth of 33 percent.

The reason for such a drastic change can be inferred by referring to the characteristics of both sites.

First of all, Naver is a portal site made in 'Korea' and is optimized for Koreans. Therefore, Naver's strength is very convenient for people who use Korean language and letters.

Naver's shortcomings are soon a problem with its search algorithm, which is blamed for its falling share. When searching for a keyword first, they expose their own text first. (Naver blog, Naver article, etc.) and set up a profitable advertising model at the forefront. This is not the single factor in the decline in market share, but it seems to have had a significant impact.

Next is Google. There is a reason why Google has risen from 1 percent to 33 percent in the Korean market in three years. First, Google shows us real 'information' to the front. Comparing the two, I searched for 'makguksu' in Korea. In Naver's case, a number of shopping sites were at the top, but Google put information on what makguksu is at the top. Also, if you hand over some personal information, as is usually the case, Google will analyze and display exactly what you want to find. That's why Google dominated the world. Give consumers what they want. It's very simple and easy, but there are a number of real problems, such as algorithm problems, fighting fake information, and advertising that makes money, but Google has done it.

The downside to Google is that it is a global company and localizing is not yet available for each country. Also, unlike Naver, internal communities (such as Naver News, Naver blog, Naver cafe, etc.) have yet to be activated in Korea.
