How did those aspects(participation, empowerment, etc.) of governance improve since the Medieval Ages?/ Changyu Jung

In the medieval ages, most people can’t take part in making their societies better. Only a few ‘chosen’ people like kings and noblemen had the power to change the world. And people like them were chosen by their birth. If someone was born as a slave, he or she and his or her children should be a slave forever, with no power. But today everyone has rights and the power to change the world. One example of this can be universal suffrage. People can choose their leaders by it.
And in the medieval ages, transparency was not that important so high ranking officials and the kings can commit corruption easily. (Of course there were audit offices, but the power of the kings was too great.) But now other people can watch how the money goes, so transparency got important these days.
Also, following god’s will and old tradition was more important than efficiency in medieval ages. There were some rules about how to do things and people should follow it. But now, old traditions are broken and people process something based on efficiency and effectiveness.
