How are foreigners treated in Korea?
In the past, foreigners were recognized as strangers in Korea. So they were unfamiliar and strange. However, the presence of foreigners living in Korea today has become a more familiar target than in the past, as those who speak Korean fluently are frequently exposed to the public, such as appearing on the air through the media. However, Koreans still tend to perceive foreigners as different from us. This is because Korea still has many images of a homogeneous nation.
And Korean people's treatment depends on the nationality of foreigners. Foreigners in East Asian countries, whose appearance is similar to ours and is often seen, are more familiar, but their attitudes differ depending on the political issues with the East Asian country. And Koreans tend to discriminate against foreigners in Southeast Asia, which accounts for a large proportion of simple foreign workers, and they also show a friendly attitude toward Western whites. They also feel a greater sense of alienation and curiosity from people in countries they don't often encounter.
